Arriving in Kelowna

Once you have arrived in Kelowna, keep your eyes open for your Host Family or the International Student Coordinator as they will be in the greeting area at the airport to meet you. They may have your name on a piece of paper so that it is easy for you to find them. Once you have met, you will pick up your luggage and then drive to your new home. You may feel a bit nervous; it’s okay. It can be a bit overwhelming at first, but you will soon figure out that we Canadians are really very friendly people.

You may want to unpack right away and get settled or you may want to visit a bit with your Host Family. Do whatever makes you feel comfortable or whatever the Host Family suggests. It is really important that you do not just sit in your room with the door shut. Try and speak with the Host Family. Ask questions and try to communicate; remember we are all here to help you. Living in a Canadian Homestay is going to be quite different for you. It will not be like home, but that’s what your Canadian experience is all about. Being flexible is so important. You’ll do just fine!

Now is the time to get lots of sleep so that you can get over your jet lag as quickly as possible. Try to get onto our schedule immediately by going to bed around 10PM and getting up early. If you do this, it will be much easier for you on the first day of class.
