About Kelowna

Arrivals

Kelowna is a four season destination of spectacular beauty, rich in culture and history. Our population is approximately 111,000 and is growing on a daily basis. It is the gateway to the Okanagan Valley and home to Kelowna International Airport; the 10th busiest in Canada, easily connecting to major North American cities. Kelowna is located approximately 400kms from Vancouver and 600kms from Calgary. From Vancouver, it would take about 4.5 hours to drive, but what a beautiful drive through the mountains it is!

Kelowna Sails

This medium sized Canadian City is one of the safest in North America where a student can experience Canadian culture yet not be overwhelmed by a big city.

Accommodations - Homestay

At Heritage Christian School, we will make every effort to place students with a Host Family that is connected with the school. Families are carefully screened and selected to match with the requests of a student. We have a wonderful selection of loving and caring Host Families.

Bed and Breakfast

If you are in need of short stay accommodations, there are a variety of choices ranging from lakeside resorts to cozy Bed & Breakfasts. May we suggest the following;

Things to do

Kelowna is surrounded by the Cariboo and Monashee Mountains Ranges, making it a great winter destination as visitors make their way to the ski mountains, Big White Ski Resort and Silver Star Mountain - both within a one-hour drive.

During the summer, you will find the beaches lined with people as they enjoy the beautiful warm weather of the valley. We love the water! Children’s water parks, boat rentals, parasailing, wind surfing, canoeing, kayaking, wake boarding and swimming are popular in Okanagan Lakes. Kelowna gets up to 2000 hours of sunshine every summer with an average maximum temperature of nearly 28°C.

Kelowna’s love-affair with things of the earth is as old as the city itself. The community’s roots in orcharding and agriculture account for a way of life which nurtures, cherishes, and respects earth’s offspring. Add to this collective history the region’s microclimate and predisposition for a long growing season, and the city flourishes.

All summer long, visitors can learn about the produce and flora of this fertile region at a variety of orchards. Rediscover the taste of freshness from our friendly farm community. You can even jump on a tractor for an orchard tour.

Enjoy some of the finest mountain resorts Kelowna has to offer. Fishing, mountain biking, hiking, hunting, ice fishing, ATV’s, dirt biking, fires and bar-b-ques – all of this and so close to town. The beautiful serene settings will make you just plane feel good.

Tee-off in a canyon or chip in an orchard once you're finished shopping on the streets of Kelowna. Golf Kelowna's rocky cliffs, rolling hills and tumbling mountain streams, and watch out for those willow trees, grassy dunes, rushing creeks, and rocky ridges. Golf pros and students of golf can play 30 Kelowna golf courses within driving distance of their hotel room. Individual or group lessons from a certified PGA golf professional can help to perfect that 'rusty' swing. Many Kelowna golf courses have great restaurants and a ‘19th hole’ where stories about missed putts and magic shots can be shared.
